We’re back after a one week break with a look at recent Star Wars news including interviews with Leslye Headland on The Acolyte and Emilia Clarke on further developing Qi’ra, plus the return of IDW’s Vader’s Castle series. From there we dig into the last two Bad Batch episodes, “Reunion” and “Bounty Lost.”
This week’s show is all about comics and cartoons! For the comics side of things, we run down the Marvel Star Wars news coming out of NYCC 2019, take a look at some recently announced Star Wars manga, and share our thoughts on the first two Return to Vader’s Castle issues from IDW as well as Star Wars: Allegiances #1 from Marvel. The second half of the show is devoted to discussing the first two episodes of Star Wars Resistance‘s final season before we wrap with a few minutes on Freddie Prinze Jr.’s recent (brilliant) viral monologue.
We get into the spooky spirit of Halloween this week by taking a look at the first four issues of IDW’s Tales From Vader’s Castle series in the first portion of this Halloween-themed episode. The back half of the show features a discussion of the similarities between The Force Awakens and this year’s new Halloween film, both of which walk the line between sequel, reboot, and reimagining (and are both really, really great).
After the Disney deal went through and the canon “rebooted,” I made a commitment to start fresh collecting Star Wars comics in earnest. I had a handful of original Marvel books and kept up with the Dark Horse titles for a few years, but I was never fully able to catch up (same with the novels, etc.). The continuity reorganization gave me a fresh starting point and as of this moment I’ve read pretty much every Star Wars comic published since the change. I love what Marvel, IDW, and the Lucasfilm Story Group have been doing with the comics, bringing in some of the absolute best talent in the industry to tell great stories that compliment the films. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some of this talent at various conventions over the past few years, and it has been great to be able to let them know how much I appreciate the work they’ve been doing (and to get signatures for my collection). So that’s what this post is all about, just sharing the books I’ve had signed and my appreciation for the creators.
